WAVE — rilly big shoe
An interesting opportunity is coming up for West Coastal artists, in the WAVE art show, Oct. 26-28. It’s only three days long, but is held concurrent with the O’Neill Coldwater Classic pro surf competition — the first such in Canadian waters.
That means a lot of new faces will be in town — some say over a thousand — with a lot of free time on their hands, and my guess is that a lot of them will be looking in on the WAVE show.
The savvy local artists will get some choice pieces up in this show — pieces targeted at the hip, surfer audience — and price them reasonably. I’m betting a whack of art will sell during this show, for a nice infusion of cash to artists’ pockets in the runup to Xmas.
The local art scene is better known for lamenting how tough it is to make a living out here than it is for marketing its stuff. In the past it has been like pulling teeth to get artists to enter shows, what with all the paperwork (two pages), moving of art to and from the show (the Weigh West is walkable), and just getting their act together in time. Artists, this here is a golden opportunity to take a step toward professionalizing your art and turning it into the money fountain that it is in your dreams. Ah dare ya!
