Cindy Mawle grew up amongst a playground of forests and beaches in the small Vancouver Island community of Sooke, B.C. Her adventurous, independent and determined nature as a child evolved into the driving force behind her creativity today. Encouragement from a friend and neighbour who painted in oils and a high school art teacher helped to open Cindy’s eyes to the world of creative possibilities and set her forward on her path. In 1987, Cindy moved to Didsbury, Alberta. In 1993, when her daughter was six years of age, a few parents in the community persuaded her to teach drawing and painting to their children, which eventually turned into nine years of private teaching. Initially Cindy taught children, and eventually adults, while working full time as an optician and raising her daughter. Cindy supplements her self-taught journey with workshops facilitated by established artists. She chooses those artists by finding a particular “edge” in their work that she feels she can utilize for her own growth. Cindy has worked in pastel, watercolours, oils, pen and ink, but acrylics have held her steadfast since 1995. In 2007 Cindy moved back home to Vancouver Island and has been working diligently to establish herself as a serious professional artist. Cindy has held solo exhibitions as well as being selected to participate in many juried shows including Vancouver FCA, Sooke Fine Arts and Sidney Fine Arts shows. Cindy is a member of the Federation of Canadian Artists, belonging to both the Arrowsmith and Nanaimo Chapters. She currently works out of her home studio in Bowser BC.
