Dian McCreary B.A. Born and raised in Yorkshire, England, Dian grew up under the artistic influence provided by her parents who painted, sketched and enjoyed photography and darkroom work. At age 19 she traveled throughout North America where she continued to follow her dreams. After raising four children in Alberta, Dian attended the University of Lethbridge, Alberta graduating in 2001. As part of her B.A. program she took art and photography courses and discovered the creative possibilities of the camera lens and the darkroom. Dian and her husband moved to Ucluelet, British Columbia in 2004, where they built Reef Point B & B and Gallery by the Sea. Dian’s true passion is for black and white photography. She feels there is greater flexibility for artistic expression while capturing the nature and beauty of her natural world. Relying on ambient light to set the mood, Dian captures the ocean’s fluidity with long exposures, the drama of West Coast storms and crashing waves on rocky headland; or the mystical light in ancient rainforests, soft drifting mist and the interplay of light and shadow on the forest floor. Dian is committed to traditional darkroom photography capturing images on film she hand develops the black and white print in her darkroom In 2012 Dian was commissioned to produce her photographs in extra large format. This special commission challenged Dian to 'go big' and diversify the reproduction methods with the use of digital technology. When producing large format prints the negative is scanned and printed as a giclée. All darkroom and giclée prints are released with limited edition certification. Dian oversees every step of the process from camera to print. Dian’s photography is available exclusively at Reflecting Spirit Gallery in Ucluelet, BC. “There is so much beauty and inspiration here in this little piece of paradise”.
