Thyme Pieces Photography - Karen Gamble

Photography has been a passion for me from as far back as I can remember. Beginning with my mom’s old Kodak Brownie point and shoot, I took endless photos of family pets. Growing up camping on Vancouver Island I progressed to taking candid shots of family and friends, always looking for the “moment” that captured the individual.

I moved to Long Beach in the early 70’s and with my first 35mm camera discovered the magic of the natural world around me. With the wealth of subject matter at hand, I learned the joys of capturing the beauty of both the close-up macro world and the vast west coast landscapes.

I am a self-taught photographer. My skills have been honed through the sharing of knowledge and ideas exchanged in photography clubs, and I was also fortunate to be the staff photographer for “West Coast Country” magazine for 3 years.

I am inspired by nature in all it’s entirety…the colours, lighting, symmetry, detail and movement. Nature has supplied all that I need to work my craft. As a photographer I use all my senses to get the feel for a scene, that way I feel I set a mood for my shots.
