Born and raised on the West Coast, Robi Smith is a mixed media and installation artist. Her art reflects her passion for coastal ecosystems, her deep interest in the interconnections between species and her concerns about the impacts of climate change, habitat degradation, plastic pollution and overfishing on natural systems. Fueled by her interest in how art can be used to communicate science, Robi is writing and illustrating a book about the glass sea sponge reefs in Hecate Strait. She has shown her artwork in Canada and the United States and has recently completed commissions for the BC Children's Hospital and Vancity Credit Union. Robi is an Artist-in-Residence with the City of Maple Ridge (2014-18) where she collaborates with community members to create art in and about nature. She is also pursuing a Masters of Education degree in Arts for Social Change at Simon Fraser University. * images are copyrighted and may not be reproduced without the written permission of the artist.
