June 27 – July 4, 2020
Celebrating 50 years of the Pacific Rim Arts Society AND 32 years of the Summer Festival!
The Pacific Rim Summer Festival is one of our longest standing programs and has morphed over the years to reflect our communities as they change. We have set objectives to guide committee members in their planning of the current festival.
Our goal is to design an artistic and culturally diverse program that includes popular, classical, Indigenous and world music and dance performances; include some aspects of visual art to enhance the arts and culture experience; include artistic initiatives that will reflect the local arts-based community; include a variety of artist-led workshops and activities that engage the community in the arts; expose our communities to artists from other regions and cultures in Canada; feature family oriented performances and workshops; develop pricing strategies that make the events attractive to individuals and affordable for families.
This is PRAS’s 50th anniversary year and we are celebrating in every program throughout the year. The 2020 Summer Festival will have a special objective of engaging our future emerging artists and performers and we are including a “Battle of the Bands’ in order to showcase our local musicians, poets and performers. Bands will submit a video to the adjudication committee and then be selected to play LIVE at two different locations / dates in Tofino and Ucluelet. There will be a “People’s Choice’ award as well as an ‘Artist Choice” award selected by the committee and professional artists. The winner will open for our last professional performer at the end of the festival.
