Katsumi Kimoto is originally from the coastal community of Ucluelet, located on Vancouver Island, and now resides in Vancouver, BC. Having worked as a dedicated abstract painter, an art curator and art dealer over the last decade, Kats opened his very own Kimoto Gallery, in 2013. Kimoto Gallery features talented regional and national Canadian artists, and he is proud to exhibit his work, alongside his hard-working friends and fellow artists.
Inspired by the rugged west coast landscape, Kimoto’s abstract work plays with colour, texture movement and depth, to emulate the beauty of the Pacific. “I am greatly influenced by where I’m from and by the beautiful things that have always inspired me. My experiences are the foundation of my work. Abstract artwork for me is truly about capturing the essence or feeling of something, in the paint, without painting the thing itself.”
Kimoto achieved his Bachelor of Fine Arts, with Distinction, from Concordia University in Montreal, QC, and has a Diploma in Visual Arts, with Honors, from Kwantlen College, in Surrey, BC. He also completed a Senior Management Certificate in New Media Design, from BCIT in Burnaby, BC.
