R*A*A*T*U
Random Acts of Art in Tofino & Ucluelet
April 19 – 25, 2009
It got too complicated to post all the pictures here, so we created a public Picasa album of all submitted RAATU photos. The full album (about 80 pics) at this link, with comments, names and details.

Mark and Elgin created this sculpture from beach trash, lugged up all those stairs from Florencia.

Gael Duchene's Ice Bowl sculpture slowly melted, revealing its hidden secrets.

David Floody really gets into his poem My Body is a Vintage Motorcycle

Lisa Jewell (blue hair) and Daniela Petosa (antennae) held the Make Art Not Trash workshop in Wickaninnish School.

Flamenco class was held in the Village Green gazebo on Monday afternoon, attracting a small crowd. Photo Pam Lewis
YOUR chance to make a point // express yourself // have fun …
in public, in private … to be famous, to be anonymous …
you can do it alone or conspire with your school, business, store, gallery, restaurant …
you can do it in the dead of night and tell nobody
or share it with your book club,
dance troupe,
bridge club … kung fu group
——> Tell us what you’re doing!
take a picture (or a video!) of your random act
and send it to us to get posted here
your imagination is the only limit,
but here’s a few ideas for things to do
origami left in unexpected places
make a light sculpture with candles, jars, CDs, rhinestones
wear a paper bag on your head
rant on a soapbox about your lost loves
slip a handwritten poem into a paper on the newsstand
give us a song in the bank line-up
perform a scene of street theatre in the village green
be a flash busker for an afternoon
read a poem to town council
make a Japanese-style ‘instant painting’ in the mist on a window
stack up a column of stones in your garden
dress like a gay pirate
paint a flower painted on your cheek for an hour (or a teardrop)
do a handstand waltz in the park
walk around with your guitar, wearing movie-star shades
chalk drawings on the sidewalk
tell a story to a captive audience in a line-up somewhere
call everybody ‘darling’ for a day
put a crazy message on your answering machine
write a haiku in the dirt on your car door
hang a painting over your desk at work
post a spoof ad up on the bulletin boards
Let us know
what you’re planning or what you’ve done. Post a comment below or email us and we’ll post it!

How about sculptures that slowly dissolve in the rain?
How about reenacting a mythological story , perhaps on a foggy beach ?
